Kunming Jinri Tower

The Jinri Tower was built in 1666 during the Yuan Dynasty. The building was extremely grandiose. It was referred to as “the building closed to the sun” by the people in Kunming because it was considered a very high building at that point of time (about 30 meters high). It was originally located in the center axis line on south to north of old Kunming City and it was Kunming’s big south gate. The Jinri tower is Kunming’s symbol and proud ness like the Golden Horse and Green Chicken Torii. The JinRi Building area was Kunming’s main business centre during the Ming and Qing Dynasty. Large quantity of goods was assembled here. Presently, it is still the business centre of Kunming City.
