The Tanhua Temple is located at the foot of Ruiying Mountain of Gold Horse Mountain area, east of Kunming, Yunnan province. The temple was built in 1634a.d. reputedly there was a night-blooming cereus and it was pressed to death when the temple was built.

After the temple was completed, the night-blooming cereus renascence, the fresh leaves looked like pineapple, the flower looked like lotus and the smell was very fragrant. That’s why the temple was named Tanhua. Tanhua Temple is famous for its plants such as the yulan, camellia and cyclamen, etc.

The night-blooming cereus will blossom at midsummer night. You’ll see the beautiful view of Kunming by climbing up Ruiying Tower and overlooking from there.
