Chaotian Palace is located on the city mountain, east of Mochou Road towards the water west gate. The heavenly palace ancient architectural complex occupies an area of approximately 70,000 square meters. It is imposing and broad in scale and is the most complete preservation of Qing Dynasty temple of Confucian learning in Changnan area. It was said in the late spring and autumn period, Wu Wangfu once established this place as the workshop for weapon refinement, thus the name smelted mountain. After that all previous dynasties emperors constructed palace temple here, the name alternates and was abandoned for many times.
After the Ming Dynasty found the Nanjing capital, the heavenly palace was constructed and became the place to hold magnificent ceremonies, for royalties to practice the royal etiquette and was also the place for junior bureaucrats to study the dynasty’s civil and military.
