Sanya Ancient Yazhou City,Guyazhou Cheng

The ancient Yazhou city is the present Ya City of Sanya and located 40 kilometers west from Sanya. The ancient Yazhou city has a long history and many historical scenic spots. Many senior officials were censured here during ancient time. This old city is an earth city before the Song Dynasty. Brick wall was built in 1198 and it becomes a firm big city of Hainan Island after Yuan, Ming, Qing generation. The original old city has east, west and south gate. The east gate is called the Spring Gate and the west gate is called Zhehai Gate. The south gate is called the Civilized Gate because it is located in front of a study palace. Both the east and west gates didn’t exist now. A new south gate is restored, which is the only surviving gate of ancient Yazhou city. The newly built south gate tinted arch brown red, with the crenel entrance seemingly repaired from the old. The three characters, "the civilized gate" (from the Qing dynasty) is carved on the north gate. Two pavilions ridge house were constructed on the repaired South gate---- the civilized building. You get to look at the panoramic view of the ancient Yazhou City when you mount the city gate tower.
