The Solitary Joy Temple located in Ji County’s downtown is a key national historical site promulgated firstly, and an ancient Buddhist temple enjoying high reputation home and abroad. It was initially built in Tang Dynasty and rebuilt in the 2nd year of Tonghe Regime, Liao Dynasty (984).
Wu Palace at its gate is a building with five ridges and four slopes. Its top eaves stretch far-reaching. Chiwen (legendary dragon kiss) on two ends of main ridge is the oldest Chiewen’s model preserved roof in China. "Guanyin Pavilion", with height of 23 meters and two layers from top to bottom, is the oldest wooden structure building. The 16.08-meter-tall 11-headed Guanyin image is one of the biggest and oldest colored clay sculptures in China. Xieshe Budhisattvas and Buddha warrior attendants in Wu Palace are excellent ones made in Liao Dynasty. There are the murals of 16-arhats and Erming kings and the image of disciples drawn in Yuan Dynasty on internal walls of the pavilion. They are quite rare on their composition, color and style in ancient China, and have important value of scientific study.
Solitary Joy Temple still stood lofty and firm after many earthquakes and wars over a thousand years. Experts and scholars from China and foreign countries are profuse in praise on the scientific research value of is structure, religion, history and aesthetics etc. It attracts a great many visitors all the time.
