Xunshan Palace, with two courtyards, is located at the Front Mountain. It is the Ancestral Palace of the Yi Ethnic Group in Qianxin Village. Before 1949, there was steel carved with the names of the Yi’s ancestors. The primogenitor Xinuluo ranked first and other followed by other ancestors.
Xunshan Palace was first built in 714. After being rebuilt several times, the present Xunshan Palace composed of the Front Hall, Grand Hall and wing-rooms. The statue of Xinuluo is consecrated in the Grand Hall.
On the fifth day of the lunar month each year, the nearby Yi Ethnic Group will gather to hold grand festival to worship their ancestors here. Bonfires are lit when it turns dark and the youth sing and dance with Lusheng, which is a type of instrument. It has become an important folk event in this area and also attracts lots of tourists to participate.
