Kongwang hill the Han Dynasty portrait completely concentrates on the southwest corner of the mountain, taking advantage of the mountain according to the shape. The entire statue distributed with the length of 17 meters and the height of 8 meters on the yellow earth, with altogether more than 100 portrait engravings, very similar to human and lifelike, with the smallest only about 10 centimeters.
There are portraits in a variety of positions such as standing, sitting, jumping and lying, the image is full of characteristics with different mannerism.
After expert’s appraisal and verification, the statue engraving dated back to the A.D. 170 year of Eastern Han Dynasty late years, comparable to Yu Jianyuan 2nd year (336), earlier than the Dunhuang Mogao Caves by 200 years and is our country’s earliest Buddhism cliff statue discovered till now. It is listed as the State Council key national relic preservation item.
