Taiping Palace was initially named Taipingxingguo courtyard. It is located on the mountain foothill of east Mount Laoshan, Qingdao of Shandong Province. It was a Buddhist temple constructed by Emperor Taizu from Song dynasty in honor of Taoist Liu Rezhuo. The palace was repaired in A.D. 1190-1195. The main famous hall is Taoist trinity palace, Pei palace and Zhenwu palace. The precipice stood erected on the west of the palace, beneath is a stone cave and was named as Dragon cave. The cave measures several feet from vertical to horizontal. There was engraving in the cave with the three characters "Hunyuan stone" together with stars design. At the hillside located to the north of the palace is the well from the spurting of Jianshui River. It was said that a farmer saw white dragon swimming in the gorge hence the name white dragon gorge. The megalith at the bottom of the gorge is countless and stretches across both banks. The water flows from the stone crack and was called the immortal bridge. There is a megalith on the hillside across the bridge engraved with seven lines of 20 forewords from Qiu Chuji’s chant on Mount Laoshan. Qiu Chuji was a famous Taoist priest at the beginning of Yuan Dynasty. He once planned strategies for Kublai Khan and did planning for him. The peaks raised strangely on the northeast of the palace providing a magnificent sight, the shape resembling a great roaring lion, hence the name Lion Peak. The peak hillock mountain range opens evenly, the cloud fills the air and has "the lion range horizontal cloud" beautiful scenery.
