Mayu Island is located at the entrance to the sea of Shantou. It is a new place of interest as the Shantou sea-crossing bridge was built. The island is also a part of the bridge. The whole island covers 0.206 square kilometers (0.65 kilometers long and 0.64 kilometers wide) and there is a natural bay at one side of the island. The island was opened to the public in 1979 as a place of interest. A big black stone is on this island, which is said to be the relics of Macau Goddess (a holy goddess in the legend to protect the fish men), and people call it Mayin Stone to give their best wishes. It is a special stone because the stone is always out of the sea-level no matter how big the waves are. There are two Macau temples in this island. But usually there should be only one temple in a place. So that is the most astonishing that people think of this island. At the southeastern corner of the island lies a natural sea-bath place. And a big stone with the shape of peony flowers is lying there. Two rocks are at the two sides of it and the total three are like two animals are playing with a flower. Many people are going swimming there during the hot summer period.
