The National Museum of China was directly inaugurated under the Ministry of Culture of P.R. China on 28 February 2003. Formed on the basis of the National Museum of Chinese History and the National Museum of Chinese Revolution, the National Museum of China is a comprehensive museum focusing on history and arts, systematically showing the long history of China.

The old building of National Museum of China will undergo renovation and expansion from 2004 to 2007. The present floor space of 65,000 square meters will be expanded to 150,000 square meters. After expansion, the National Museum will be equipped with new set of modernized museum facilities. With proper qualified staffs, comparable museum’s collection, exhibitions, and equipments will be upgraded to a higher level correspond to its status. The National Museum of China will be constructed as a world-leading museum comparable with the time-honored civilization of China.
