Jiumenkou aquatic Great Wall is located within the boundaries of Lijia town in Suizhong County and is 15 kilometers from the Shanhai Pass. It is an important constituent of the Great Wall.
It was built during the Northern Qi Dynasty (the A.D. 479 - 502 years). It was an important military mountain pass before the Ming Dynasty and was known as "the Beijing eastern first pass" in history. The 7,000 square meters long stones road lay in vertical line on the hundred meter wide Jiujiang River and was known as the famous "slab stone". Above one of the slab stones, nine drainage city gates were built which is how the important pass acquires its fame. The giant aquatic bridge across Jiujiang River above the Great Wall gate has besieged city on both sides just like the bridgehead. It formed the Jiumenkou aquatic Great Wall which was reputed with “there is city within the water and there is water under the city".
