Located in Zhengding County, Shijiazhuang, Longxing Temple (Longxing Si) is one of the largest-scaled and best preserved temples in China. The temple, whose former name was Longcang Temple (Longcang Si), was first built in the 6th year of the Kaihuang of the Sui Dynasty (586). Historically, many emperors often visited here to worship. The tablet hanging on the front gate was written by the emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
On the central axis of the Longxing Temple lie the Hall of Heavenly Kings (Tianwang Dian), Hall of Manicheanism (Moni Dian), Mituo Hall (Mituo Dian), the Altar (Jie Tan), Dabei Pavilion, an so on. Dabei Pavillion is also named Foxiang Pavilion (Foxiang Ge) and Tianning Pavilion (Tianning Ge). In the Dabei Pavilion stands a large copper Buddha statue, which is the symbol of the Longxing Temple. The copper statue, which was built in the 4th year of Kaibao of the North Song Dynasty (971), is 21 meters high. Since it has 42 hands, it is also named as Thousand-Hand-Thousand-Eye Guanyin (Qianshou Qianyan Guanyi). The Hall of Manicheanism (Moni Dian) is famous for its unique structure. Seen from the sky, it has a cross shape in plane, which is the only example in the Song Dynasty. There are beautiful frescos and colorful Buddha statues in the Hall of Manicheanism (Moni Dian), which are worth of appreciating.
At the north side of the Longxing Temple lies Rongguo Residence (Rongguo Fu), which was built imitating the Rongguo Residence that was described in Red Mansion, one of the four classic literary masterpieces.
