Anji Bridge is another name for the Zhaozhou Bridge, which spans over the Jiaohe River of Zhao County, Shijiazhuang. Zhaozhou Bridge was built in the flourishing period of the Sui Dynasty (605-616). It is the longest and oldest one-arch stone bridge still preserved in the world. The bridge is 50.22m long and the vault is 9.6m wide. The bridge is very solid, and has a magnificent look to it. On two sides of the big arch 4 holes have been dug in a line, the effect of which lightens the weight of the bridge, conserves stone material, and makes it possible to extend the bridge and have a wide underlying water flow. The railings and the pillars of the bridge are carved with dragons, animals, flowers, and bamboo. Among these, the dragons are the most elegant.
