Urumqi Walnuts Ditch,Hutao Gou

The walnut ditch is located 13 kilometers east of GongLiu County, on west Xinjiang and is a wild walnut nature protection area. There tertiary sole species wild walnut tree of Chine could be found here.

The distributed area reaches 446,700 square meters, with over 1,000 ditches where the total wild walnut trees amounted to almost 3, 100 trees. The biggest No.19 tree trunk is 113.5 centimeters, the height is 16 meters and the age of the tree is above 200 years. It gains reputation with its extremely rare and precious live fossil.

It has extremely high value for viewing and scientific research. There are wild fruits, poi, white birch, Chinese hawthorn, multiflora rose, various types of fruticose woods and psilophytes such as Chinese rhubarb, caladium, wild peony, wild rose, medlar, and drum cascara, various traditional Chinese herbs and so on. Wheat, vegetables and various types of native plants was discovered in recent years. The walnut ditch is a natural plant garden.
