The Yandang Mountain, over 70 kilometers away from Wenzhou, is located in the northwestern part of Leqing city. It rises 1,150 meters high. In Chinese, Yandang means "reed marsh for wild geese" and in autumn wild geese do gather in the marshes around the lake at the top of the mountain. The mountain became known in the early Tang Dynasty and enjoyed greater fame during the northern Song Dynasty, when many temples, pavilions, and other buildings were put up here. The mountain is also listed in the top 10 famous mountains in China. The whole area covers about 450 square kilometers, divided into eight scenic zones: Ling Peak, Ling Rock, Dalongqiu Area, Yan Lake, Sanzhe Waterfall, Xiansheng Mountain-Gate, Xian Bridge and Yangjiao Cave. The Spirits Peak (Lingfeng), Spirits Crag (Lingyan), and Great Dragon Pond (Dalongqiu) on the southeast part of the mountain are considered the "three wonders of Yandang". There are totally 102 peaks, 103 rocks, 29 stone scenic zones, 66 caves, 25 waterfalls, 22 small mountain lakes, 20 temples and 9 springs etc. Spirits Peak (Lingfeng) is also called Husband and Wife Peak (Fuqifneg) because at night it looks like a couple in each other’s arms. Spirits Crag (Lingyan) is a screen-shaped crag. And Three-terraced Falls (Sanzhepu) are waterfalls consisting of three levels. Water from the upper and middle levels pours down the rock to a pond.
