Nanshan Temple is located in Taihuai County, 2km away from the largest temple of Wutai Mountain. Construction of the temple began during the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368AD). There are 7 floors, and the temple itself can be divided into three parts. The three floors below are collectively known as Jile Temple, the middle floor: Shande Hall, and the top three floors: Youguo Temple.
Nanshan Temple is located by a mountain. The passages between each hall are full of twists and turns, which gives a feeling of magnificence. The stone sculptures and clay sculptures are well known by locals. The contents of the sculptures include patterns that tell stories about the legends of Buddhism, allusions of Taoism, flowers, grass, birds, and so on. These sculptures are all well designed and elegantly crafted.
