Wang’s Courtyard is situated on the north tip of the Jingsheng Village, Lingshi County, which is 150km north of Taiyuan. The courtyard sits in north, facing the south. The Wang’s Courtyard occupies a commanding position as it was built on a small hill. There is a wide field from the Wang’s Courtyard.
The scale of the Wang’s Courtyard is large. It covers a total area of 34,450sqkm, which is 4 times much bigger than the Qiao’s Family Courtyard in Dingqi County. The Wang’s Courtyard is not only a group architectural complex, but is also a special architecture museum.
The Wang’s Courtyard is composed of three parts—the east courtyard, the west courtyard and the Xiaoyi Ancestral Hall (Xiaoyi Ci). The courtyard is unique in structure. You may find woodcarvings, brick carvings and stone carvings every where in the courtyard. Some are carved on eaves; corbel brackets, screen walls, and some are carved on shrines, windows and gates, and so on. They are incredibly lifelike and marvelously conceived. The buildings here not only embody the grandness of those in northern China, but also the elegance of those in southern China. The Wang’s Courtyard is the combination of the architectural art and paintings, calligraphies, poems at the same time. It is the pride of the locals and even Shanxi Province.
