Xinyang’s 8000-year history has seen the city develop from an important grain-producing base to one of the richest cities in Henan province.
It’s a city where the visitor is spoiled for choice, with beautiful mountains, lakes, and numerous scenic spots, that include Jigongshan Mountain and Nanwan Lake.
Jigongshan Mountain, (Rooster Mountain) in southern Xinyang is classed as one of the Four Summer Resort Locations in China - the other three are Lushan Mountain in Jiangxi province, Moganshan Mountain in Zhejiang province and Beidaihe River in Hebei province. Jigongshan’s shape resembles a rooster crowing and makes a great photograph. Clear spring water and constant mild temperatures make Jigongshan the ideal summer resort.
Nanwan Lake, southwest of Xinyang City, is one of the most famous scenic spots in Henan province. Numerous small islands in the lake’s 853-meter length are home to birds, monkeys, and snakes, each with their own characteristics.
With rice and fish being hailed as the two wonders of Henan province, visitors to Xinyang can dine on the freshest of fish and the country’s finest rice, whether they’re backpacking or staying in the lap of 5-star luxury. The local carp dishes are especially delicious.
Shopping expeditions should include Xinyang Maojian, one of the ten most renowned teas in China and the very creative ox horn handicrafts
