Yibin Highlights
Yibin Highlights
Where the Jinsha and Min Rivers merge, they form the mighty Yangtze River. There, at the confluence in heavily populated southern Sichuan province, lies Yibin, honored as the 'first city of the Yangtze.' Having served as a prefecture for centuries, Yibin locals have their origins in an ethnic minority from the southwest, naming the city in the Northern Song Dynasty (960 – 1127AD). Little is known about the history of Yibin other than it evolved through invasions, empires and dynasties. Once ruled by the Bo people, before the advent of Han rule, Yibin today is a commercial hub, where all lines of transportation find meeting place. Among its many places of historical interest are Cuiping Hill, Liubei Pool, Jiuzhou Pagoda, the Huatai Monastery of the Tang Dynasty and the Memorial Hall of Zhao Yiman. Tall mountains, a bamboo forest and miles and miles of orange groves are a delightful spectacle. This profusion of orange trees makes Yibin county one of the biggest orange producers in all of China.
