Gezhou Dam is another conveyance system for the Three Gorge Project. Located at the mouth of the Three Gorge Project on Yangtze River, the Gezhou Dam is 2561m long. It enjoys the reputation of “the Largest Dam in the World”.
This largest water conservancy project in Yichang, Hubei Province---Gezhou Dam, is composed of a flood discharge brake with 27 holes, 2 power plants, 3 ship brakes, 2 sand discharge brakes. It is currently the largest hydropower station in China. The embankment is 2,561m long and 70m high, which controls a drainage area of 1,000,000km2 with total content of 1.58 billion steres. With 21 dynamos the hydropower station will generate 13.8 billion KWH a year.
One travel on the Yangtze River, passing through the Gezhou Dam on a 10-thousand-ton ship, you may adequately feel the wisdom and greatness of Chinese people. The dam can regulate the height of the water level. Once you are on the ship, maybe the ship elevates over 10m with the elevation of the water. How interesting experience you’ll have!
Besides that, it is much grand when the flood is discharge by the dam. It is sure that the tempestuous billows and loud sound of the flood will astonish all of you.
