Wu Gorge, located in the Wushan County of Chongqing and Badong County of Hubei, is named after the Wu Mountain. The gorge is also called Great Gorge. The Wu Gorge stretches more than 40kn starting from Wushan County to Badong County.
Wu Gorge is famous for its beauty. The cloud and fog wreathes around the gorge all year long. You may appreciate the famous sight “Wu Shan Yun Yu.”with drizzle. The gorge is long and the river meanders far away. If you come to Wu Gorge and want to view the beauty, you’d better take a boat and go forward along the gorge. The mountains erected at the two banks of the river are stretching far away and look like two large green screens. The 12 peaks at the two banks are the Denglong Peak, Shengquan Peak, Chaoyuan Peak, Shennu Peak, Songluan Peak and Jixian Peak to its north, and Feifeng Peak, Cuiping Peak, Juhe Peak, Jingtan Peak, Qiyun Peak and Shangsheng Peak on its south. There peaks are standing upright. The scenery of the Wu Gorge is so beautiful as if it were a traditional Chinese painting of landscape.
There are many relics in the Wu Gorge. The Kongming Tablet, located at the foot of the Jixian Peak, is one of the most famous relics here. The Jixian Peak, with the shape of scissors, is also named Scissors Peak. The Kongming Tablet is located just here (Kongming refers to Zhuge Liang, who was a famous politician, ideologist, militarist in the Three Kingdom Period 220-265). It was so named because the characters on the tablet were written by Kongming.
