Fragrant Stream originated from Shengnongjia Forest Area, west of Hubei, which is the hometown of concubine Wang Zhaojun in the Han Dynasty. It was said that while Wang Zhaojun was washing her face at the bank of the stream one day, she accidentally dropped her string of pearls into the stream. The water smelled of perfume thereafter, hence the name “Fragrant Stream”. The Broad Gorge is located from the mouth of Fragrant Stream in Zigui to the ferry of Badong with a length of 45kms. Qu Yuan, a well-known ancestor of poem in China, Wang Zhaojun, one of the four beauties in ancient China, and Kou Zhun, an outstanding person since young were born along the Broad Gorge. Traces of the ancient natives were discovered in this area, which makes Fragrant Stream more mysterious.
