The Yin Relics is located in the area of Xiaotun Village, northeast of Anyang, Hunan Province. It is the capital relics of the late Shang Dynasty (16th Century AD-1066AD) and the Yin Relics has a long history of more than 3,300 years. It is famous for its excavation of a mount of bronze and discovery of the Yaguwen--inscriptions on bones and tortoise shells of the Shang Dynasty (1766BC-1122BC). The Yin Relics covers an area of 24sqkm and is composed of hall area, emperors’ tomb area, common tomb area, handicraft mills area, the resident area for common people and the resident area for slaves. The layout of the ancient city is reasonable and the ancient Huan River flows through the city. Many valuable cultural relics such as the bronzes, stone implements, bone implements, jade articles and so on were excavated here. Among those, the Simuwu Dafangding (a large container with three legs and two ears) is the most famous. The Simuwu Dafangding, 875 in height, is the largest and heaviest bronze that has been discovered in the world.
The Yin Relics Museum was built on the site of the hall area on the bank of the Huan River in 1987. The museum covers an area of more than 60,000sqm. The museum was built in the imitation of the layout and the constructions of the Shang Dynasty (1766BC-1122BC), and also has the features of the woodland gardens. Now this place attracts numerous of archaeologists and tourists for visiting every year.
