Owing to its unique landscaping and wonderful structure, the garden rises to a winding, secluded and enchanting realm among its scattered but broad space. The garden was mainly constructed with bamboos and stone. Bamboo-growing aims at having rich species.
Thousands of bamboo poles display thousands of postures, offering a magnificent view. The stone-piling features used different stones for different peaks-forming and this garden is renowned both domestic and abroad for its unmatched season-differentiating rockeries. In addition, there are three ways leading to the luxurious living quarters, which portrayed the former owner’s great learning, honors, prosperity and luxuries.
Ge Yuan Garden occupies a total area of 2.3 hectares, with the bamboos, stones and residence each taking up one third of the area respectively. These three parts are independent but coordinated, each playing its own tune but forming together climaxes one after another. It is hard to say which acts the leading role because the three of them merged into one. It is a fine private garden enjoying an advantageous fine site in terms of geomantic quality.
People who lived here in the olden days treated rockeries like their friends, good and helpful so as to lay the solid foundation for their family property. They treated bamboos like their kind and good neighbors, thus the saying of “The Huangs has good sons with prosperous career” was passed on with approval.
