Beijing Great Wall at Gubeikou,Gubeikou Changcheng

The ancient Beikou Great Wall is located at northeast of Miyun County, which is only 100 kilometers from Beijing. Its topography is a strategic place, occupying the center-section between Shanhai Pass and Juyong Pass. The road is steep and it was an important location since ancient time. It has the name of Beijing northeast gateway. The Qing emperor went to the northeast to pray to the ancestor in the past and the hunting plus patrols must pass through this place. Camp city was once constructed. Kangxi once spent the summer vacation here. Qianlong once reviewed troops in this place. It was hard to visualize how difficult it was for the laborer to transport stone at that time by their bare shoulder. After the Great Wall construction was completed, it may be said”If one man guides the pass, ten thousand cannot get through”. The Great Wall at Simatai is also famous, which is the extending of the Great Wall at Gubeikou.
