Bazaar means “market” in the Uygur language. Bazaar in Kashgar focuses on the west side of the Aitirxin Square in the downtown. The Kashgar commercial development has its origin, because the ancient Silk Road linked to India and west Asia’s Kabul, Teheran, Baghdad and Damascus from here.
Presently, Kashgar is still the important gateway from China leading to the India subcontinent and central west Asia. It includes the important port such as Red Flag Lapu, Yirgushen and so on. The entire Kashgar city looks like grand "the bazaar".
Bazaar in Kashgar is abundant and it is known as "the central Asia first big bazaar" and "center west Asia international market". The goods come from the domestic market and ranges from shampoo to clothes, shoes and includes almost everything. The commodities that come from Pakistani and some countries from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) shows foreign countries essence and taste and attracts attention. Dry fruit for example includes grapes, the fold pit apricot, pellicle big walnut, blossomless dried fruit, and the big pine nut and so on.
The East Gate Bazaar is the biggest in scale, rich in commodities, reasonable price, and most customers’ crowd and with good atmosphere. Before 1992, this bazaar only operates business on Sunday; therefore the bazaar was still called “the Grand Sunday Bazaar” until now by foreign tourists and overseas traveling brochures. In fact now this bazaar operates business every day but it is only on Sunday would a person feel the lively vigor and the unprecedented scale of the bazaar.
