At present, Longkou Ding former dwelling is our country’s broadest scale complete preservation central courtyard type architectural complex. The central courtyard is composed by the main room (generally an independent courtyard of north room), the rooms composed by east and west side and the south room. Some central courtyard has east and west rooms on both sides of the main hall and the four sides of the house are connected by the veranda to avoid the wind and rain. Because it is square in shape, the four cardinal points at four directions are enclosed by fence; therefore it is called the central courtyard. Many scattered central courtyards constituted the central courtyard architectural complex. The Longkou Ding former dwelling was the former dwelling of multimillionaire, Ding at the beginning of Qing Dynasty at Hwang County. Presently, it was awarded as Longkou city museum. It is located at the end of Yellow West Avenue of Longkou City. The area occupied is 31,060 square meters and the floor space is 8,042 square meters. Ding was the famous rich men of Huang County. He was in the business of pawnshop and banker and became rich at the beginning of the clear Kangxi Dynasty. After Ding gained fame and fortune, he recruited skilled craftsman from local and other provinces to build high official’s residence in the Yellow County which was broad in scale, amounting to over 2,700 houses. By visiting here, one would understand the life led by rich and powerful big families who lived here.
