Named after the Yuhuang Temple, the Yuhuangding Park is located on a hill in the center of the Zhifu District, Yantai. With a fairy-like view, the Yuhuangding Park is also named “Lesser Penglai Pavilion”.
The hill where the Yuhuangding Park is located is 72 meter high. Many halls, pavilions and buildings were erected on the hill. The Yuhuang Temple was first built in the Yuan Dynasty (1280-1368) and expanded and renovated in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) The Yuhuang Temple, situated on the top of the hill, is surrounded by short walls. The temple area can be divided into three parts; comprising of the Front Gate (Shan Men), Middle Hall (Zhong Dian), Back Hall (Hou Dian), east wing-rooms and west wing-rooms. At both sides of the Front Gate lie a bell tower and a drum tower respectively. The Middle Hall (Zhong Dian) is erected in the north, facing the south. Elegant patterns are carved on the purlins, which look quite imposing and great. There is a statue of Yuhuang Dadi (the universal ruler in Buddhism). A stone gateway stands outside of the east gate of the Yuhang Temple and the tablet where the three Chinese characters “Lesser Penglai Pavilion” written on is hanging on the front head of the stone gateway. On January 9th of the lunar month each year, Yuhuangding Temple Fair is held in the Yuhuangding Park. The Yuhuangding Temple Fair includes many interesting activities which attract numerous of tourists from home and abroad every year.
