Mao Ji is a Laizhou nationality public figure, from the Ming Dynasty official to cabinet bachelor and auxiliary prime minister. According to record, Mao Ji was and incorruptible official with great achievements. There was much widely known folklore left behind in the Qi and Lu after Mao Ji resigned from his post on account of old age. Mao Ji was buried on top of the hump next to Zhang village in west Laichau. The tomb is located at Zhang Village of West Mountain, 2 kilometer west of Yantai city, Shandong. The tomb was initially broad in scale, occupying 2 square kilometers. The stone beast, stone horse and various types of animal statues amounted to nearly thousands. To date, the stone beast, stone horse and the emperor edict still remained. In 1994, repair was carried out financed by the folk. It is still one of Laizhou city’s most important scenic spots even though it did not resemble the initially scale of grandness. Traveling from town towards the west approximately 2 kilometers passing through Zhang Village, you will arrive at Mao Ji tomb. This scenic spot is open throughout the four seasons. The best season for visiting is in spring, summer and autumn.
