Shanghai Century Square,Shiji Guangchang

Located at the south of Century Avenue, Century Square is the largest outdoor square, as well as the one possessing many “Time” theme sculptures. The square combines the Western culture with the Eastern and harmoniously joins the famous Century Avenue and Century Square together.
At the entrance of the square is the grand sculpture of “Light of the Orient”, whose original shape is solarium. 24 stainless steels were used to build the large 400 square meters frame. The total length of the stainless steel exceeded 6,000 meters. Facing the Century Avenue, this sculpture stressed the theme of time as in entering the new century. It is the perfect combination of sculptural art and modern science and technology.
The whole square can be divided into three parts. Walking into the square, you will see the central square is paved with reddish brown and blue stones. Surrounding the eight 5 meters high stele are many scattered squares or cuboids stone tables and stools. The 13 meters high “Triumphal Arch with Eight Pillars” echoes each other at a distance. .
Through the parterre with four characters “Shi Ji Guang Chang (Century Square)” made up of colorful flowers, you’ll reach the second part. It is a cupped square composing of squares and circles. The buildings in this area are all made of glass, such as the two glass subway stations, four glass sightseeing towers and the glass hall of science and technology. The glass construction made the square looked modern.
Actually, the third part refers to the overpass leading to the Century Park. It combines the construction of classic Chinese gardens with the modern style construction. 128 stone lamp stands stood on both sides. You will feel lofty like walking in the new century and the future becoming more hopeful when you walk among them.
