The Bund is Shanghai’s showcase! It is one of the places that nearly every tourist goes to when they come to Shanghai. It starts from the Baidu Bridge on the Huangpu River, the “mother of Shanghai.” The Bund has many tourist attractions: the square with the statue of Marshal Chen Yi is an open air podium which gives new views of the Shanghai Plaza Culture; the Cenotaph, which stands on the man-made island, is a monument of people’s heroes; the riverside greenbelt, the Electronic Waterfall Bell, and the Great Mural Carving -- all symbolic of what is known as “the Bund.”

On the west side of the Bund, you can get a glimpse of historic Shanghai with its most famous and attractive sight—52 buildings designed in various architectural styles including Gothic, Romanesque, Renaissance, Baroque, Classicism. Even though these buildings were not constructed in the same historical time period or designed by the same person, they harmoniously blend together to form an international architectural exhibition. Standing at the Bund and looking eastward, you see modern Shanghai represented by the magnificent Oriental Pearl TV Tower and the Jinmao Tower.

As charming as the Bund is during the day, it becomes that much more charming in the evening. The Bund sparkles with colorful street lights, ships sailing on the Huangpu River, while vehicles shuttle along Zhongshan Road. The Bund is an impressive, beautiful, and special place to visit — and one you will never forget once you’ve been there.
