18 out of 20 emperors of Tang Dynasty were buried in this place. Therefore, it is called “Tang eighteen tombs”. Zhao Mausoleum of Emperor Li Shimin of Tang Dynasty is situated on the Jiujun Mountain, 22 kilometers northeast of Liquan County.
The native called the mausoleum as “Tang King Tomb”. It is the biggest among the “Tang 18 mausoleums”. It is 45 times bigger than the Mingshi third mausoleum in Beijing.
The Zhao Mausoleum (636) was built in the Zhenguan 10 years till the Zhenguan 23 years of Li Shimin. It took altogether 13 years for building the mausoleum. The Zhao Mausoleum was designed by the renowned painter of Tang Dynasty; technologist, Yan Lide and Yan Liben brothers. The project is huge and the building is magnificent.Zhao Mausoleum comprised altogether 160 accompanying burial graves. The grave area covers a total area amounting to 300,000 Chinese acres.

It was almost double the size of Chang An city at that time. Judging from the tablet, the accompanied buried persons were mainly various nobilities of the King and civil military officials at the beginning of Tang Dynasty. The grave group is mainly distributed on the east, west and south sides of Jiujun Mountain, assuming a fan-shaped. Among the buried along with the dead graves, Wei Zheng and Xu Maogong grave are the most famous.
